Artist Statement

Bridging Realms

In this series, I endeavor to explore the interplay between the intricate motifs of Islamic art and the profound beauty found in both natural and man-made forms, using the evocative black-and-white photography of Michael Kenna. My creative process involves layering of Kenna's photographic elements with geometric and floral Islamic patterns, creating a visual dialogue that transcends cultural and artistic boundaries.

Utilizing digital techniques such as masking, opacity adjustments, and blending modes, each piece becomes a canvas where Kenna's nuanced photography meets the meticulous precision of Islamic designs. The choice of monochrome images strips the subjects of their elemental forms, allowing the complex patterns of Islamic art to accentuate their inherent beauty and structure.

The images—a solitary tree, a majestic bridge, a serene seascape, and a windswept tree on a textured background—are chosen for their symbolic resonance and visual impact.
